Currently FoodOn has two branches to generally describe food production from an agricultural perspective, and in terms of food processing in food facilities.
In a graph representation one would link a food item instance as the “output of” a food production process listed below.
Note that labeling claims are handled a bit differently, as information content entities in a separate facet.
Agricultural food production

This facet branch covers distinctions made about organic vs. conventional farming, indoor vs. outdoor cultivation, and wild-caught food. Terms are organized under an OBI ontology “planned process” term, which covers all processes executed intentionally (and according to some plan, as opposed to natural biological processes) .
Food facility preparation process

This facet branch covers the preparation of food in various post-harvest processing facilities.
